STAY INSIDE / THE £10 GUIDES

Rainy-day London for £10 or less

When rain changes the plan, the useful answer is an activity that is actually indoors. These choices have a qualifying adult price of £10 or less, and several let you make a good visit in about an hour. Choose somewhere close to where you are: the journey to an indoor museum can still involve wet pavements and an outdoor queue.

For a free indoor outing, choose Wellcome Collection near Euston, the National Gallery near Trafalgar Square or Guildhall Art Gallery in the City. In Greenwich, the Fan Museum costs £5. In a shorter Covent Garden gap, the Royal Opera House’s public spaces may fit; check access before setting out.

How we chose these ideas

Put a plan together

Choose the nearest suitable indoor activity that is open and available. If you need to book, do that before travelling. For a brief Covent Garden gap, the Royal Opera House public spaces can be more realistic than a museum across London. For a longer afternoon, give one collection time rather than turning the day into a wet dash between venues.

A few useful answers

Are these all step-free?

No. Indoor and accessible are different attributes. In particular, Dr Johnson’s House has no step-free access. Check each entry’s access note and the official venue guidance.

Why no outdoor audio walk?

This list is for an outing that stays indoors. Cobble walks may suit other plans, but they are not automatically a solution to a rainy-day request.
