How we chose these ideas

We chose two free, compact collections with the same ordinary afternoon opening pattern. They cover different subjects and are separate destinations. This is an editorial plan, not a guided tour, a measured walking route or a guarantee that both museums will be open on a particular date.

Put a plan together

Arrive near the 1pm opening and start at the Grant Museum, then visit the Petrie Museum. Allow about two to three hours overall, including looking, walking and breaks; this is our planning estimate. If you have only an hour, choose the subject you prefer and visit one museum. Check both visitor pages before travelling, especially around holidays.

A few useful answers

What does it cost for two people?

Ordinary admission to both museums is free, so the total admission cost for two adults is £0. Transport, food and optional extras cost more.

Can I do this on Sunday or Monday?

Neither museum normally opens to ordinary visitors on Sunday or Monday. Choose a Tuesday to Saturday afternoon and check the official pages for exceptions.

Can I visit in the morning?

The usual public opening is 1pm to 5pm. A morning visit does not fit this plan.

Is the route step-free?

We have not verified a step-free route between the museums or every access detail inside. Check each museum’s official access information if this is essential.
